WATERLOO’S rebuilding process, following relegation from Division 1 at the end of last season, has nearly been completed, and they expect to have a squad of 29, plus three players on loan from Sale, by the start of the new season.
They are still talking to several players, including a highly competent scrum-half and an Argentinian forward, but have signed most of the people they need to get the club going upwards again.
A big party at Blundellsands tomorrow will enable president Colin Fisher and the club’s new skipper, prop Martin O’Keefe, to introduce their new squad to supporters who will doubtless feel quite relieved.
One of the most positive moves is the recapture of centre Jason Duffy from Sedgeley Park, the club who have lured former skipper Freeman Payne away from Blundellsands.
He looked most impressive during the last County Championship, and should help fellow backs like Dan Loader and Neil Kerfoot. Alex Davies looks all set to hold down the key position of fly-half, with John Broxson there to challenge as his partner, and Dan Loader will be challenging to stay at full-back. Two new faces from Wales are three- quarters Tom Davies from Neath and back rower Matt Bradley.
