THE opening day of the season saw a glut of goals shared among the Vodkat North West Counties League clubs.
Leading the way were the days highest scorers Bootle who thrashed Holker Old Boys 7-0. The long trip to Cumbria proved memorable forJoe Doran who struck a well take hat-trick and he was ably supported with a brace from Andy Fowler with additional strikes from Sean Sandison and Jamie Hay ensuring that the New Bucks Park side head the league table for the first time this campaign.
Runcorn Linnets were cruelly denied victory in their first ever top flight fixture when held to a 2-2 draw at Atherton Collieries. A fifth minute opener from Liam Loughlin put the visitors in front, but the advantage was soon cancelled out when Danny Stubberfield levelled after 21 minutes. Shortly after the break last season’s leading club goalscorer Thomas Lamb rifled home a spot kick to restore his sides lead but an injury time Collieries penalty ensured the spoils were shared.
Formby crashed to a 4-0 home defeat against Flixton.
