Rugby Union: Leigh 26, LSH 21

ANY hopes Liverpool St Helens may have had of starting their new season by winning the Lancashire Trophy vanished yesterday when they lost to Leigh in extra time.

Leigh snatched two tries in the first five minutes through right winger Donlan and left winger Forshaw before Chris McRoberts charged down an attempted clearance to grab a try that Simon Worsley converetd.

LSH took the lead through scrum-half McRoberts’ second try but Paul Wilcock kicked the teams level to take it to extra time, when Anthony Bentham who grabbed the winning try.
