Rugby Union: Widnes will be looking for revenge over Wirral

PROMOTION hopefuls Widnes and Wirral face an interesting South Lancashire/Cheshire One clash at Heath Road tomorrow on the first full league Saturday of the season.

Wirral have appointed prop Mike Ludbrook as their new captain. He makes up the front-row tomorrow with Adam Shepherd and Ross Page who have progressed through the Colts and second team.

Also given a chance is lock-forward Ryan Jones who has made just a couple of senior appearances in the past.

Coach Lee McDermott is confident his Widnes side will make further progress and revenge for defeat by Wirral in the last outing last season would be sweet.

Anselmians face a trip to the Isle of Man to take on Vagabonds and other games in the division include Wigan v Aspull, Ruskin Park at Burnage and Hoylake v Sale.

Oldershaw and Wallasey have a Division Two derby at Belvidere. Both sides will be hoping to improve after cup defeats last weekend. Wallasey, who lost in extra time at Ormskirk have several fitness doubts, while Gavin Scott leads Oldershaw whose former player Martin Sutton is now coach at Cross Lane.

Other Division Two fixtures include Ormskirk v Warrington, Orrell Anvils v Ashton-on-Mersey, Collegiate v Southport and Sefton v Dukinfield. Division Three matches include Mossley Hill v Eagle and St Edwards at Moore.
