Rugby Union: LSH miss their chance

LIVERPOOL ST HELENS came off second best in their opening North One clash against Westoe.

Leading at half-time and in front again with 17 minutes to go the Moss Laners were eventually sunk by two converted tries, the final one in the fourth minute of added time.

LSH had the perfect start when Simon Worsley slotted a penalty after three minutes. Four minutes later full-back Dave Birch went over in the corner after good work from impressive new centre Ben Mousley and winger James Donnelly. Worsley converted for a 10-0 lead.

Westoe reduced the arrears with a try from centre Johan Saimain in the 32nd minute before Worsley and Saimain exchanged penalties leave LSH 13-8 in front at the break.

The visitors took the lead immediately on the restart with a converted try from Graeme Haswell bringing a strong response from LSH creating a number of chances which, to their cost, they failed to take. Worsley landed a penalty on the hour to edge them in front, 16-15, before Westoe scored again, three minutes later, Saimain converting his own try.
