Rugby Union: Australia tour success

WIRRAL GS returned this summer from a great tour of Australia after involving 67 boys in 14 games.

“It was a tremendous trip,” master Phil Crawley said.

“The lads did themselves proud both on and off the field and it was a great experience all round.”

The first XV returned undefeated, winning all their five games.

Starting in Sydney, they overcame Northome GS 55-5 before beating St Joseph’s College by the narrowest of margins 13-12. At Coffe’s Harbour they got the better of Alston Ville before crushing Emmanuel College on the Gold Coast.

They finished their tour in style, defeating John Paul College Brisbane 40-3. Skipper Alex Murphy impressed throughout.

The 2nd XV won three out of four games and the Under-16s won all their five games.

Wirral crashed to earth at the weekend, losing 13-12 to Arnold School in Blackpool.

Winger Josh Heywood scored a try and No 8 Benjamin Marsh got the other.
