Rugby Union: Cup reunion for duo

CHESTER and Caldy, who exited North One in opposite directions, will clash in the quarter-finals of the Lees Brewery Cheshire Cup.

The competition is following the same format as last season with the top eight clubs taking part and matches up to the final in midweek taking place under floodlights at neutral venues.

The Chester v Caldy game will be at New Brighton on Tuesday, October 9.

Other ties on the same evening include Birkenhead Park v Winnington Park at Chester and Stockport v New Brighton at Birkenhead Park.

Holders Macclesfield will meet Altrincham Kersal at Sale.

Eight clubs will contest the Vase competition. Northwich have already beaten Bowdon 28-3. The other quarter-finals to be completed by December 31 show Wirral v Hoylake, Sandbach v Anselmians and Sale v Wilmslow.

Ten teams entered the Plate competition. Oldershaw and Crewe and Nantwich received byes and the first round draw shows Moore v Ellesmere Port, Helsby v Ashton-on-Mersey, Port Sunlight v Prenton and Parkonians v Wallasey.
