Rugby Union: Big test for Caldy against Tynedale

CALDY following encouraging victories over Hull Ionians and Beverley face a big test at home to Tynedale in National Three North League today.

The Northumberland club which has been on the National scene for a few years now have like their opponents also posted two successes.

Caldy retain much the same squad and will hope for another impressive kicking display from Simon Mason who landed seven from seven attempts last weekend.

Birkenhead Park welcome Huddersfield in North One and make several changes after defeat at Kendal on the opening day.

Tony Handley expects to be fit to start at stand-off with Steve Lowry as his partner. Phil Reynolds is called up at prop and Njike Tchakoute it set to make a delayed debut in the back-row.

Chester and New Brighton have a North Two West derby at Hare Lane. Both made winning starts last week as they bid for a quick return to North One.

The Blues give a debut at lock to Adam Bird with Danny Jones switching to the back-row for the injured Wayne Clayton.

Alan Hesketh who has returned from a spell in America gets a wing chance. Guy Stringer joins Dan Stafford and Lee McCourt on the bench.

Tom Donovan and Paul Jones-Evans make up the centre pairing for Chester. Skipper Sean Green is named on the wing and the two entrusted with second-row duty are Rob Stevens and John Piggott.

Leigh have Lymm as visitors as they begin to feel their way in the higher grade.
