Rugby Union: Best touches down as Sefton overcome Ormskirk

SEFTON saw off Ormskirk 24-5 in South Lancashire/Cheshire Two League.

David Carr, Tom Fletcher, John Fenton and Neil Best went in and Fenton goaled twice Ormskirk had to settle for an Andy Wilson try.

Wallasey finished 42-13 to the good against Orrell Anvils. New winger Ben Intamati enjoyed himself with four tries with Paul Haimes and Keith Mahon claiming one each. Paul Lewis converted the lot.

Oldershaw lost 26-12 at Crewe and Nantwich and it has been a worrying start to the season for the Belvidere outfit with no headway so far on clearing a seven points league penalty imposed on disciplinary grounds,

There was also a defeat for Southport 22-18 at home to Oswestry but Warrington managed a 24-13 victory away to Ashton on Mersey.

St Edwards enjoyed a 92-7 romp against Mossley Hill in Division Three. Jude Garvey crossed three times with a brace of tries for Matt McLaren, Andy Kelly, Peter Stephenson and twins Tom and Mike Manley. Ben Blackwell and Tony Evans also went in and Martin McGeough hit 11 goals.

It has certainly been refreshing start for St Edwards after a couple of traumatic seasons with some up and coming players now well to the fore.

Prenton had to settle for a Mark Ball try and an Andrew Johnson penalty in a 24-8 home defeat at the hands of Newton Le Willows.

Eagle beat Trentham 29-17 but Ellesmere Port secured just a trio of penalties in a 33-9 result against Moore.

There were Division Four successes for St Mary’s 28-17 over West Park Warriors, Capenhurst 31-15 at Helsby and Port Sunlight 15-5 at Linley but Merseyside Police came a 45-7 cropper at Linley.

Birchfield in North Lancashire One fell 21-13 at Bolton.

There is a full league programme this Saturday.
