Rugby Union: Caldy looking to start recovery

CALDY seek a return to winning ways in National Three North League today when they visit Fylde.

Certainly the opposition is unlikely to be as strong as last week when the Paton Field side was well and truly put in its place by Tynedale.

It is still a learning curve for Caldy in their first venture into the National scene and certainly their performances to date have been favourable.

John Bentham, Marcus Coast and Dave Mercer will come into contention today if they can prove their fitness. Shaun Woof who took an emergency role in the back-row against Tynedale will hope to revert to his favoured centre position.

Birkenhead Park journey to Hull seeking a first success in North One and will need to improve on their place kicking which cost them the game against Huddersfield last Saturday.

Park who have never won at the Hull ground are likely to start with Dave Hall in the centre for the injured Gareth Davies and he will provide an extra place kicking option.

New Brighton and Chester hope to keep their unbeaten records in North Two West and both envisage little change after their 26-26 derby last Saturday although the outcome of some fitness tests are awaited. The Blues have Tyldesley as visitors and Chester go to Rochdale who are joint top.

Tyldesley have made a poor start with nearly 100 points conceded already and just a try and a kick to show for their efforts so this looks a big opportunity for the Hartsfield outfit.

Leigh who are still feeling their feet in the higher league hope to break the ice away to Sandbach who have enjoyed mixed results to date.
