Rugby Union: Cruel blow to Caldy as single try tips balance of match

CALDY suffered their second National Three North League reverse in a defence-dominated affair at Ansdell.

There was just one try which proved enough to tip the balance for the Lancashire club. But Caldy on the day played the better rugby and were unfortunate to lose.

They had to go into the game without their recognised second-row but Sam Dickinson and John Bagley did their best on the day while Loa Topou made a welcome return to the back-row.

Fylde led 8-3 at the halfway stage, thanks to a Sam Simpson try from a line-out and a Martin Wallwork penalty.

Simon Mason landed a penalty for Caldy.

Two more from Mason edged Caldy in front but Fylde had the last say with another effort by Wallwork.
