Rugby Union: LSH clinch first win

AN LSH team finally nearing full strength, duly got off the mark on Saturday with their first victory of the season.

After dominating the early play and taking a healthy lead thanks to two excellent penalties from Simon Worsley and a fine breakaway try by centre Mark Dickenson, LSH began to lose their way.

Shortly before the interval, a good kick and follow-up earned visiting sub Sean Rogers a try, converted by full-back Chris Stewart and soon after the resumption another try, this time from right winger Alex O’Connor, was also improved by Stewart to put the visitors three points in front.

LSH seemed to be losing cohesion and with it control, but the return of big Dave Hale from the sin bin helped to restore confidence and some kind of control returned.

A long penalty by Worsley brought the teams level and then in the closing minutes, full-back Ashley Worsfold rounded off the movement of the match with a super try to give LSH victory.

The movement, begun in his own half by Mark Dickinson, was carried on brilliantly by newcomer Dave Birch, who kicked on, followed up so well that he denied a defensive clearance and enabled Worsfold to round it off with a memorable try.
