Rugby Union: Relief as LSH get off the mark

THERE was relief all round at Moss Lane as LSH finally got off the mark last weekend with a narrow win over Altrincham Kersal.

Both sides were under strength but LSH prevailed with tries from their recent recruits from Tyldesley, Mark Dickinson and Ashley Worsfold.

The two new backs have settled in well at the Lane and are making an immediate impact.

Both of their scores were set up by ex-LSH colt Nick Judd, putting in an excellent performance on his first-team debut.

The young winger dispossessed his opposite number for Dickinson to race half the field to score and then went almost 50 metres himself before being tackled, only for Worsfold, following up, to dive over for the match-winning try.

With Jan Lourens, Richie Bailey and Ben Mousley still on the injured list, director of rugby Paul Woodward is delighted with his new players and his newly-introduced youngsters.

“Mark and Ashley have shaped up well,” he said. “And I am particularly encouraged by the performances of young Nick and his fellow colt Jeff Foulkes.

“We have always known that we will need a large squad at this level and these lads will fit in very nicely.”
