Rugby Union: West Park hit by injuries in Yorkshire

WEST PARK’S journey back over the Pennines at the weekend was disappointing to say the least after losing 25-15 at Morley in a game that could so easily have brought at least a losing bonus point.

As the table stands, the Merseysiders are locked with no less than eight teams in the National Three North table, who have won two of their four matches so far.

Coach Martin Jones said: “It is really frustrating to reflect on the way the game went at the weekend.

“With a better result we could have been shouting near the top of the table. Unfortunately a spate of injuries hit us badly and disrupted a lot of our flow.

“Thankfully it looks as if the likes of Dave Westhead our lock should have recovered from a damaged hand and Mark Turner should also be all right.”

Despite their defeat over in Yorkshire, West Park came back no doubt reflecting on some of the positives.

Stand-off Rob Hitchmough, as well as Darren Wilson, both showed inspirational flashes and the scrum-half, who returned to the club, this summer showed real vision to be rewarded with his two tries.

West Park face Hull Ionins at Red Rocks this Saturday.
