WATERLOO did their National Two campaign a power of good with a four try bonus point win over Nuneaton at Blundellsands.
In an exciting first half Waterloo looked as though they could run away with the game with all four tries coming in the opening 40 minutes.
In contrast the second period was a disappointment as lapses in concentration, poor decision-making and an inability to hold possession almost handed game to the visitors.
A try by Dan Loader, exploiting an overlap, gave Waterloo an early lead.
Nuneaton struck back with a penalty from Chris Brown but with Waterloo beginning to exert some control Jon Nugent snapped up a loose ball at the back of a ruck to cross for a second.
Alex Davies added the conversion but although Nuneaton cut the deficit with a second penalty from Brown, Luke Stringer, sniping at the fringes at every opportunity, nipped in for the third, again converted by Davies.
Neat inter-passing from deep within their own half produced the fourth Jonny Lowden try, finishing off what was possibly Waterloo’s best score of the season so far, Davies again successful with the conversion In the closing minutes of the half poor defence let Nuneaton in for a try, Brown’s conversion closing the half at 26-20 to Waterloo.
A penalty by Davies increased Waterloo’s lead at the beginning of the second half but that was the end of the scoring save for a final try by the visitors, again through slack defence
