BIRKENHEAD PARK ended the unbeaten record of Westoe in North One League in a game which provided few try-scoring opportunities.
It was a solid all-round display by Park, but on the debit side they lost scrum-half Steve Lowry with a nasty ankle injury in the first quarter.
Sean Ingram did well as his replacement as the home side registered their second victory.
They got off to a flying start. Dave Ibbotson charged down a clearance kick inside the first minute and went on to touch down. Three penalties by Tony Handley stretched the advantage. Westoe had a good spell towards half-time and were rewarded with a try by centre Ian Tulloch and a penalty from Johann Saaiman.
Park steadied the ship and struck for a second try. Christian Jones touched down from a driving maul.
The home side made absolutely certain with three more successful penalties by Handley as Westoe finished the game a man short after hooker Nigel Douglas was dismissed late on.
Forwards Phil Reynolds and Paul Hellier came off the bench to help the Park cause during the second period.
