Rugby Union: Start is a bright one

THIS WAS another solid victory for New Brighton, who have taken seven out of eight points in their first four matches in North Two West League.

Leigh had to be content with a couple of kicks in a game the Blues dominated.

Stephen Dean opened the scoring with an 11th- minute penalty. Then Dean provided the cross kick for Alan Hesketh to gather in style and touch down, with Dean adding the extras.

Penalties either side of half-time put Leigh back in contention but the Blues always seemed to have the whip hand.

Chris Dale stunned the home spectators as he burst through two tackles in a fine run from his own half to gain try number two with Dean again converting.

Mike Gallimore was next to go in after forward pressure and Dean maintained his sound place kicking with the goal and another penalty.

Forwards John Brotherton, Danny Jones and Wayne Clayton, along with centres Dale and Sean Ellis who was playing in a new position, took the eye for the winners.

It was a fourth successive reverse for promoted Leigh, who are finding the going tough.
