Rugby Union: Anselmians aim to improve on disappointing start

ANSELMIANS are looking to improve their game when they take on Ruskin Park at Malone Field on Saturday in South Lancashire/Cheshire One.

It has been a disappointing start to the campaign with four reverses so far but Saturday provides an opportunity to stop the rot.

In their latest outing Anselmians crashed 53-0 at Wilmslow and a top priority is to improve their defensive qualities.

Wirral have a big game at home to Wilmslow as they try to bounce back after their first defeat last weekend. The East Cheshire side heads the table with a 100% record.

Widnes were pleased to collect a 20-14 victory at Ruskin Park where Rob Critchley, Phil Glover and Paul Borg touched down.

With Liam Morton, Steve Vickerstaffe, Tom Farmer and Rich Barraclough now nearing full fitness a more familiar line-up could be in place on Saturday at home to Sale.

Hoylake were pleased to record their first victory, 21-0 against Bowdon with Tom Selby and Steve Young crossing. They now try to build on the improvement away to Wigan.

Aspull this weekend cross the Irish Sea to take on Isle of Man outfit Vagabonds, who always present a difficult obstacle.

Wallasey sit at the head of South Lancashire/Cheshire Two following a 27-19 success at home to Ashton on Mersey.

Sefton beat Oswestry 15-12 thanks to touch downs from John Fenton and Mark Tyms plus a conversion and penalty by Fenton.

Ormskirk beat Collegiate 19-7 and there were defeats for Oldershaw 20-32 at Dukinfield, Warrington 15-7 at Crewe and Nantwich and Southport 22-12 against visiting Orrell Anvils.

St Edwards saw off Eagle 29-8 in Division Three while Prenton lost 13-11 in the cross river derby against Mossley Hill.

Ellesmere Port just failed 21-20 at home to Trentham.

Parkonians were out of luck in an 20-18 finish at home to Newton-le-Willows.

In Division Four West Park Warriors whipped Helsby 41-0. There was a hat-trick of tries for John Tibbins in a first success.

St Mary’s edged out Merseyside Police 18-15 but Port Sunlight lost 23-10 at home to Knutsford.

There is more league action for all the clubs this coming Saturday.
