Rugby Union: Coach calling for support

NEW BRIGHTON are in confident mood as they prepare for a double header this weekend against Stockport at Hartsfield.

The latest victory at Leigh in North Two West League was heartening as the Blues build in confidence following two dreadful years which brought about successive relegations.

Brighton have won three times in the league and drawn their other outing but the big challenge comes on Saturday against Stockport who head the division with four successes.

“Things are going really well and the Leigh success was very pleasing,” said head coach Steve Dorrington. “We are looking forward to seeing some of the regulars back at Hartsfield. We need all the support we can muster against Stockport.”

The league clash will also count in the quarter-finals of the Lees Cheshire Cup.

It finished 27-6 in Brighton’s favour at Round Ash Park where the Blues are due again later this month in the first stage of the National Cup.

Alan Hesketh, Chris Dale and Mike Gallimore gained the touch downs for the Wirral side and Stephen Dean showed good kicking form with the three conversions and a brace of penalties.

The Blues have a couple of injury problems in their camp but there should be little change for the Stockport showdown.
