Rugby Union: Schools showing class in cup

THE National Daily Mail Schools Cup at Under-18s moves into the second round this week with quite a number of Merseyside schools involved.

Liverpool College, who had an impressive win 20-10 over St John Rigby College, now face Stonyhurst away.

St Edwards crushed Range HS 50-0 to set up a fascinating battle against old rival MTS at Sandfield Park.

Cowley LC beat Bridgewater 45-7 to set up a home tie against Ormskirk.

Wirral, who overcame Rydal at Colwyn Bay, face Caldy and Birkenhead School entertain Sandbach.

In the Merseyside State Schools Festival currently being held at Sefton RUFC, Cowley and Wade Deacon qualified at under-14s level last week to go through to the finals to be played in November at Liverpool St Helens.

This week the U13s group will be in competition with the U12s in a week's time in action.

Waterloo U12s got an excellent start to their new season beating Sedgley Park 30-0.

Harry Armstrong caught the eye by scoring three tries with Dan Groves and Adam Mackie grabbing two apiece.
