Caldy aim for fourth victory

CALDY look for a fourth victory in National Three North League when they take on Preston Grasshoppers at Paton this afternoon.

The Wirral club has certainly made an encouraging start to a first ever national campaign and a place in the top half of the table is a big bonus. The Hoppers are third and will present a tough obstacle but Caldy have shown they are capable of matching most sides in the division.

A spate of injuries has not helped Caldy and both player coach Matt Holt and Paul White will need to prove their fitness ahead of today’s clash. But on the credit side Matt Bennett should resume at scrum-half and the availability of Marcus Coast and Gareth Bansor is not too far away.

Birkenhead Park journey to Altrincham Kersal in North One hoping to build on good results in their last two games. Paul Hellier returns to the second-row to try to bolster the line-out play with Chris Saidi dropping to bench duty.

Steve Lowry has made a remarkable recovery from what seemed a nasty ankle injury and takes his place at scrum-half.

New Brighton bid to main-tain their unbeaten North Two West record at home to Stockport in a game which doubles up as a Lees Cheshire Cup quarter-final originally scheduled for Tuesday.
