Rugby Union: Neighbourly grumbles

WINNINGTON PARK and Northwich have a justifiable grumble about their Powergen North Two West fixture-list this season.

They play at home simultaneously on a number of Saturdays, when both had attractive fixtures leaving many fans spoilt for choice and attendances suffer.

Newly-promoted Northwich did well to break their duck, winning 20-5 in impressive style against Vale of Lune to please chairman Sam Naylor: “We’re improving all the time and we have now proved we can live with the best in the division.”

Winnington Park were even more impressive winners against Tyldesley, running in eight tries through Ben Elliott (2), Mark Phoenix (2), Rob Garbett, Neil Welch, David Cross and Ian Moriarty, with Elliott converting four.
