Rugby Union: Waterloo 25, Redruth 19

Pablo’s late try secures late win for Waterloo

NOT the most convincing but a win nonetheless as Waterloo came back from 19-15 down in the final five minutes with a converted try and a penalty to take this National Two match at home to Redruth on Saturday.

Alex Davies opening the scoring with a drop goal but as Redruth came more into the game, tries from Lewis Vinnicombe after good movement across the backline and Seve Faleono off a 20-metre driven maul, both converted by Gareth Griffiths, put the visitors 14-3 ahead.

Waterloo replied with a try from Dan Hall after a kick and chase and a maul close to the opposition line. Davies added the conversion to leave the home side trailing 10-14 at the break.

A try from Nicola Mazzucato at the beginning of the second half gave Waterloo the lead for the first time, but with Mark Bright going over after Redruth had engineered a ‘three on two’ through the speed off the ball across the line, the visitors’ lead was restored.

At this stage the game could have gone either way but with Jon Nugent ‘stealing’ a lineout almost on his own line, a kick and chase resulted in a try for Pablo Freijoo. Davies added the conversion and a later penalty to take the match.
