Rugby Union: Westoe 28, West Park 27

THE Merseysiders were left kicking themselves after being denied victory by failing to find touch in the dying seconds. Leading by a couple of points they were knocked out of the EDF National Trophy in round one with the home side snatching the win with a penalty awarded.

West Park trailed but staged an impressive fight back with Paul Bambers scoring before Westoe replied with one themselves. Soutar added a penalty before Danny Higham ran 40 yards to narrow the gap and Soutar did the rest with his boot to put Park ahead.

Park had put together some good pieces especially in an entertaining second half but sadly the mistake near the end proved damaging as far as the visitors were concerned.
