DESPITE not having played a cup tie yet Birkenhead Park are in the semi-final of the Cheshire Cup and the second round of the National EDF Intermediate Cup.
Park had a bye in the EDF Cup while Winnington Park conceded the county quarter-final leaving Park with a derby clash in the semi final against New Brighton on November 13 at the Upper Park.
However, it is the North One league which takes priority this Saturday at home to Sheffield Tigers who are making their first ever visit to the Upper Park (kick-off 3pm).
Tigers are competing at this level for the first time and have started well matching Park’s three wins. Park are likely to field a similar line-up to that who won at Altrincham Kersal two weeks ago. Marc Harris may return after injury.
The Park Wanderers have been finding life tough since their promotion to the Bateman BMW Premiership but they continue to battle and deserved their first success 27-15 against LSH. On Saturday they visited Macclesfield and again fought hard before going down 22-6. This Saturday they travel to St Annes to take on Fylde.
There is BUSA Championship action today at the Upper Park as John Moores University take on Hull at 2pm. JMU started their campaign with a 17-17 draw at Durham. JMU will be captained by scrum-half Steve Lowry, who hails from Ulster and has figured prominently in the Park senior team this season.
Park’s new under-16s have won two of their first four games but still require players along withe the U14s and U11s. Any new players should report to the club this Sunday at 10am.
