Rugby Union: Chester’s mixed week

CHESTER suffered mixed cup fortunes last week with a heavy defeat to Caldy in the Lees Cheshire Cup and then a fine 57-7 success at Pontefract in the EDF Energy Intermediate Cup.

Saturday’s victory was remarkable as Chester made a series of pack changes but stuck to their game plan and it paid handsomely.

Centre Morne Barnado starred with four of the eight tries.

In midweek Chester never really had a chance against Caldy.

The stand-in players did very well indeed before conceeding three converted tries in the last few minutes which made the score harsh at 47-7.

Chester resume North Two West League action on Saturday when they entertain Vale of Lune and they will be confident of posting a fourth league success.
