Rugby Union: Hoylake ready for rivals

HOYLAKE and Widnes, after excellent EDF Energy Senior Vase wins at the weekend, clash in the South Lancashire/ Cheshire One League at Melrose Avenue on Saturday.

Wirral, after two successive defeats, travel to Ruskin Park. Other games include Wigan at Burnage, Anselmians at Sale and Aspull at leaders Wilmslow. Widnes won 49-15 in the Vase over previously unbeaten Heaton Moor. Mark Sibson gained two of their six tries.

Hoylake beat Warrington 29-12 after extra time with tries from Stephen Young and Andy Fielding.

Anselmians found Blackburn too strong in a 38-20 loss. Mark Petterson scored twice with three kicks coming from Anthony Molloy.

Wigan won 31-19 at Didsbury Toc H while Aspull won 28-8 at Oldham and Ruskin Park 19-8 over Ormskirk. Southport lost 16-12 to Leodiensians.
