Rugby Union: Prenton forced to pull Vase match but have sunny end with win at Port Sunlight

PRENTON opted to play rivals Port Sunlight in the opening stage of the Lees Cheshire Plate.

They should have been at Trentham in the EDF Energy Junior Vase just a week after travelling to the same ground for a league encounter. A club spokesman said several of their players have Saturday morning work commitments and could not be available in time.

They were unable to play in the circumstances and had to pull out of the trip.

There was a happy ending with a 17-7 success over Sunlight.

In the Vase Ellesmere Port fell 34-10 at home to Rotherham Clifton and luckless Mossley Hill 102-7 at Barnsley. Parkonians also went out 19-8 at home to Burley.

West Park Warriors played a Lancashire Plate match against Littleborough and found the higher-rated opposition too strong in a 34-7 finish.
