Rugby Union: Tough times ahead for West Park

WEST PARK have made a remarkably good start to their league season, considering they only just avoided relegation last season and had a good many players missing in their first few matches.

They have done well, with a fine victory at Beverley a fortnight ago, but they will be really stretched on Saturday when they entertain unbeaten leaders Tynedale.

Much will doubtless depend on whether they are at full strength, which they have yet to be this season.

If Rob Hitchmough is on form, they could well produce the shock of the day.

At least they don’t have to follow Waterloo’s example and travel down south to play major opponents like Cambridge, even though Waterloo’s opponents are simply the City team and not the university.

Waterloo seem to win every game at home but lose every one away, which illustrates how much difference travel can make to results, even if you field a useful side.

At least Waterloo overcame the absence of several key players last Saturday, but they still have to improve and find a winning streak if they are really to make a serious challenge for promotion this season.
