Rugby Union: Pascoe try isn’t enough to save Sefton

SEFTON suffered their first defeat in South Lancashire/Cheshire Two, 25-7 at home to Orrell Anvils.

They had to settle for a Colin Pascoe try and a John Fenton conversion. Stuart Williams (2) and David Wayne crossed for the Anvils with Andy Kelly hitting two of the conversions and a brace of penalties.

Second-placed Wallasey could not take advantage as they fell 18-15 at Crewe and Nantwich.

St Edwards crushed Ellesmere Port 54-8 in Division Three. Peter Stephenson went in three times and Matt McLaren twice. Others to cross were Tony Evans, Jude Garvey and Swani Labari. Martin McGeough struck seven of the goals.

Prenton finished level at 25-25 in a thriller against Eagle. Steve McCready, Rich Burley and Rob Johnston (2) were the try scorers and the latter hit a conversion and penalty.

Parkonians went down 24-10 at home to Mossley Hill with Terry Williams kicking a penalty and converting a Matt Dooley try. Port Sunlight edged the Division Four cross river derby against St Mary’s 34-32.
