ALTHOUGH Liverpool St Helens are finding it tough in North One in their 150th Anniversary season, the signs from the remainder of the club are highly promising.
While Phil Kearns’ men were giving their all at Kendal the second XV recorded their second straight win, 13-6 against Stockport, to haul themselves out of the relegation zone in the Bateman Premier Division. Tries from Ashley Stuart and Chris Stabler secured the win.
Ged Williams’ third XV are on a march in the Miller Division Four West having won the last six games. They moved into third after a 35-15 win over Warrington with tries from the Pickering brothers, Chris and Mark, Nick Goodban and skipper Williams himself. The ever reliable Jonny Dillon kicked the rest.
The newly formed fourth XV have made a remarkable start with wins against Widnes, Carrington, Birchfield and St Mary’s Old Boys.
While all those sides take the field against Preston Grasshoppers, Tyldesley and New Brighton on Saturday, all eyes at Moss Lane will be on LSH’s derby clash with Birkenhead Park.
Coach Paul Woodward is hopeful that Simon Worsley will have recovered from the hamstring injury picked up at Darlington enabling Ashley Worsfold, who has settled in well at Moss Lane, to revert to full back.
