Blyth proves big influence as Jones scores again

A HARD-FOUGHT North One derby at Moss Lane saw Birkenhead Park overpower Liverpool St Helens to continue their winning run by a 17-6 margin.

Park were nowhere near their best but the continuous driving play of the forwards eventually wore down a resilient defence.

Hooker Chris Jones continued his remarkable scoring run with another two tries. Dave Blyth was a big influence and fellow second row Greg Walsh did well in his first senior appearance.

This Saturday, Park travel to Penrith seeking a sixth successive league victory.

Meanwhile, the Wanderers registered a second win in the Bateman BMW Premiership, defeating Broughton Park 22-15.

Hooker Jon Feldman and veteran flanker Jon Shudall impressed but it was a team effort that carried the day.

This Saturday the Wanderers have a local derby at Caldy to look forward to.

Park continue to bring youngsters through to the senior club and hooker Adam Neal and prop Jay Davies both attended the Cheshire under-20s trials.

Academy hooker Jason Detlaff played for Cheshire under-18s against Lancashire.
