WIDNES almost let victory slip from their grasp in this tense South Lancashire/Cheshire One clash.

They saw a 26-8 lead dwindle away and in the end had to thank Bowdon for a late missed conversion which would have tipped the balance.

Andy Riley, Mike Lamb, Paul Wright and Fili went in for Widnes and Riley converted three times.

Bowdon also scored four tries, plus a conversion and a penalty.
