Northwich miss out

NORTHWICH narrowly missed out on two top prizes at the Cheshire Sports Partnership Awards night at Warrington.

Hoping to collect the Club of the Year award after a record-breaking 2006-07 season which included winning the EDF Energy Vase at Twickenham and four other trophies Northwich were pipped by West Cheshire Athletics Club. Blacks coach Mike Penny also finished second in the Male Coach of the Year award which went to West Cheshire’s Mike McLoughlin.

Meanwhile, after losing 72-0 at home to Stockport the previous week, Winnington Park were patting themselves on the back for a much better performance at joint table-toppers Lymm, where their margin of defeat was down to 39-6. Park actually led 6-5 for a short spell after the promising Ben Elliott had kicked two penalties, but their inexperienced pack was later overrun by the powerful Lymm side.
