IN National Two and still without a win away from Blundellsands, Waterloo travel to Wharfedale needing to make amends for last week’s poor performance at Southend.
Following that defeat the Merseyside club have slipped back into the lower half of the table yet the previous week they had beaten second-placed Blackheath at Bundellsands coming back in the second half to play some of their best rugby of the season to keep their 100% home record intact.
Wharfedale lost 37-28 at Blackheath last Saturday and are in ninth place in the table just one behind Waterloo in eighth, but with both clubs on 19 points a win for either side would open up a gap which could be critical as the league moves into its second phase.
Pablo Freijoo returns at scrum-half following Spain’s defeat of the Czech Republic in the Second Tier Nations Championship and renews his partnership with Alex Davies back to fitness having been forced off last week.
Matt Bradley returns to the pack after his sojourn on the wing at Southend. Nicola Mazzucato is switched to the left allowing Steven Dodd to resume on the right after injury.
Liverpool St Helens will be celebrating their 150th anniversary as the oldest ‘open’ rugby rugby club in the world with a dinner at the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool, tonight and will be hoping they can begin the festivities with a win over Penrith whom they take on at Moss Lane earlier in the day.
With just one win so far this season, LSH have struggled since promotion to North One and along with today’s visitors are among a group of four clubs from which three will be relegated.
