Seventh success

BIRKENHEAD extended their winning run in North One League to seven matches, but it was a close call against Cleckheaton.

The home side did not make enough use of the wind in the first period, although they did build up a 12-0 advantage.

Cleckheaton got back in contention with a couple of penalties and it needed some excellent defending by Park to keep their line intact.

Phil Reynolds and Ashley Oliver shone up front for the winners and Matt Thompson did well in the second half in an unfamiliar wing role after Gareth Davies was forced off through injury.

Andy Trotter went in on the blind-side for the first Park try on 10 minutes. Dave Hall, who had missed a simple penalty, added the goal from wide out.

Forward pressure brought a second try for Oliver on the half hour but Park could not really capitalise on a lion’s share of possession.
