THERE is JW Lees Cheshire Cup action at the Upper Park in Birkenhead this evening when local rivals Birkenhead Park and New Brighton meet for the right to a place in the final on Easter Saturday.
The other tie between Caldy and Macclesfield which was scheduled for Sale has been postponed pending further discussion and hopefully will be played in the near future, possibly next Tuesday at Chester.
The Wirral derby has an 8pm kick-off and Park who won the toss for choice of venue will step out as favourites even though some key players are missing.
New Brighton generally do well in the county competition. They are enjoying a good season and will give it a real go this evening.
Park give Chris Saidi a second-row start. Dave Hall figures at stand-off with Tony Handey who is carrying a slight injury starting on the bench.
Centre Gareth Davies is ruled out through injury so Stu Crampton comes in to partner Gary Lunt with John Brennand on the wing and Andy Trotter at full-back.
New Brighton have a doubt over lock Paul Campbell, who was hurt in Saturday’s game at Rochdale, but hope to have a near full strength side available.
