CALDY are away in the EDF National Trophythis Saturday and they could not have had a more unlucky draw.
They were picked out to play the highest ranked team in the competition so far, Manchester, who are currently on the crest of a wave at the top of National League Two and looking to gain promotion into the lucrative National One.
On the injury front for Caldy, both Shaun Woof and Paul White are expected to be back playing within the course of the next few weeks and Dave Mercer and Ben MacPherson should have recovered from their illness and injury respectively in time for the game this weekend.
“I think it’s going to be a very tough game against a team on top of their game.
“But we have got nothing to lose and it’s a good chance to test ourselves against a team from National Two
“My back is a lot better and I hope to be able to have a game this weekend at some level ahead of next week’s game against Morley.”
Caldy lost at home to Rugby Lions on Saturday and the day did not improve much for their own Lions, who were well beaten 35-15 by Macclesfield.
But better news came from the third XV as they beat Liverpool St Helens 20-12.
Mark Broadhurst played his first game for three years following two knee operations.
On Sunday, the junior colts drew away at Vale of Lune despite dominating the game and the under-16s and under-15s were well beaten by good Wirral and Old Anselmians sides respectively in their Cheshire Cup games.
The under-14s Tigers and Predators beat Northwich and Whitchurch and the under-13s had an outstanding 51-0 victory at Hoylake
The under-11s beat Wilmslow 28-0 and lost to New Brighton 12-7 in a round robin tournament.
