Clubs crash out of Vase

IT was not good weekend for the local clubs in the EDF Energy Senior Vase.

Four of the five survivors went out whilst the Aspull v Old Brodleians tie was postponed due to the weather.

Wirral put up a big show at higher rated Blackburn before going down 12-10.

Widnes finished on the wrong side of a 29-15 scoreline against in-form Rossendale. Ruskin Park finished 15-6 against Wheatley Hills and Wigan found Yorkshire One outfit Sandal just too good although put up a defiant show in a 8-3 result.

Wallasey made progress in the Cheshire Plate with a 38-15 victory over local rivals Parkonians in a 6-2 try count.

There is a last round of league action for South Lancashire/Cheshire One clubs this Saturday before a break until the New Year.

Parkonians in Division Three welcome St Edwards and have a player re-union ahead of the game with all invited to attend from noon.

Sefton and Wallasey have a Division Two cross river derby with Southport entertaining near rivals Ormskirk.

Hoylake will be without a Division One game if the RFU rule Aspull must complete their cup match against Brodleians but those set to go ahead include Wigan against Widnes, Wirral at Burnage, Ruskin Park v Vagabonds and Anselmians at Bowdon. There is no Division Four programme on Saturday.
