Morley are a big threat says Holt

AFTER Caldy’s 11-0 cup defeat to Manchester at the weekend they now turn their attention to the significant National Three North league game against Morley at Scatchard Lane.

Caldy met Morley only a few weeks ago in the second round of the EDF National Trophy winning 26-16.

Morley had a big forward pack and used the rolling maul to expert effect. Caldy managed to stay in the game until the last 15 minutes when their fitness told and they scored two late tries.

Looking ahead, coach Matt Holt said: “Last week was a great boost for us and gave us a chance to have a look at some fringe players such as Rich Broer and Greg Lyon who came through the game with a lot of credit.

“This week will be a tough test. Morley have a big set of experienced forwards who will attempt to drive us all over the park.”

Morley have great experience in their ranks and their coach is Colin Stephens, the former Welsh international who is also the current kicking coach with the Leeds Tykes.

Their captain is also a former Leeds Tyke, Craig Emmerson, who played on the wing for Glouceste.

Craig has reverted to centre but is still a very powerful player. Craig is joined in the starting line-up by Scott Benton at scrum half who has made over 60 premiership appearances for Leeds, Sale and Gloucester and also made one appearance for England. Morley will be looking to left winger John Hampsey who has scored seven tries this season as well as getting 35 points with his boot.

In the Caldy ranks both of the experienced second rowers, Paul White and Richard Bradshaw will be looking to get a start with the second team having been out for some time with serious injuries.

Shaun Woof hopes to pick up where he left off against Manchester and prop Jim Remfry will also be in contention.
