Newcomers needed if Waterloo are to challenge

AS we approach the middle of the season, many Waterloo members must be wondering what the campaign now holds.

The team’s overall record is average and though they have achieved one more victory that defeat in the league, they don’t look serious challengers for any silverware.

As a strong club, with sponsors behind them, they must have started the season hoping to move back to Division One, but there is now a gap between them promotion chasers which suggests they do not have a great deal to look forward to.

They undoubtedly miss Freeman Payne, who left at last season and powerful prop and captain Martin O’Keefe, who faces an operation shortly.

Admittedly, they were without seven players through injury but seem weak in several key positions, especially prop forward and second row.

Their forwards were badly out-played on Saturday by an Ealing team in a division below them.

Sadly, several of their better players are on loan, which makes it hard to build a really strong side. They urgently require newcomers with genuine ability involving plenty of physical power and creative skills.

It is not an easy situation at all let’s hope Colin Fisher and Chris O’Callaghan manage to find a really good solution.
