IT may not be a blank weekend for LSH this Saturday after all. Last weekend’s abortive trip to Penrith may mean a quick return journey to the frozen north according to the RFU Competitions committee.
LSH players’ disappointment at the fixture being called off due to Penrith’s reluctance to play because of the ground conditions was mitigated by the free beer provided by their hosts. It does however leave both clubs with a problem of fielding teams on a previously declared blank Saturday, three days before Christmas. Not surprisingly both clubs have appealed and have proposed Saturday January 12 as the alternative date.
LSH director of rugby Paul Woodward said: “It was unfortunate that the game did not take place last week but that’s the way it goes. If we are forced to play this week we will be severely under strength particularly in the front row. By this time players have made arrangements and some are going away and I understand that Penrith have got the same problem.”
