Williams shines as University scrape home

LIVERPOOL University ended the term on a high note beating Nottingham University by the narrowest of margins 15-14 in an entertaining game from start to finish.

The Merseysiders can certainly be well pleased with their progress with top try-scorer Matt Williams catching the eye.

At schoolboy level the North of England U18 squad to play in the Festival and final England trial on December 21 sees several well known names included. Wilmslow sixth form winger Jonathan Kennedy (and son of Sale Sharks owner Brian) plus ex-Wigan Rugby League player and England defence coach Mike Ford’s son from Rishworth School made the list.

Waterloo proved far too strong for Blackpool in the Lancashire Cup crushing the Seasiders 35-5. Conditions were tough with temperatures near freezing but the visitors pieced together some excellent moves.
