THE Merseysiders grabbed a first league double of the season but it was not easy.
West Park, under their new team manager ex-Orrell and Rochdale Rugby League stand-off Martin Strett, certainly started well with centre Cunliffe dashing between the posts for a try converted by Soutar.
The visitors’ response was a Winney penalty.
Park lost stand-off Neil Ryan with hamstring trouble and Macclesfield began to liven up. Scrum-half Walker caught the home defence napping to scamper 60 metres to score a converted try.
Park’s Williams and Smithson exerted pressure in the back row forcing Macclesfield to stray offside and Soutar did the rest to put his side back on level terms. Scrum-half Webster darted down the narrow side to score the vital try, despite a late kick from Winney.
