LSH found North One promotion hopefuls Huddersfield too powerful in this first fixture of 2008.
The Yorkshiremen breached a resolute LSH defence on two occasions whilst taking full advantage of penalties that came their way.
LSH, with Mark Dickinson in fine form, enjoyed early possession but went behind in the tenth minute following a Huddersfield counter attack finished off by lock forward Nick Sharpe. Chris Johnson slotted the first of four penalties after 18 minutes matched by one from Simon Worsley seven minutes later before Johnson scored again to make it 13-3 at half time.
LSH continued with huge sprit and heart but any thoughts of a fightback disappeared in a bizarre five minutes at the hands of referee Jim Morrell. The Liverpool whistler was seemingly the only person on the ground not to spot what looked like a blatant double obstruction as Huddersfield prop Tony Stringwell sailed over the LSH line for a try converted by Johnson.
Minutes later flankers James Cashman and Gareth Tudor were both harshly dispatched to the sin bin reducing LSH to 13 men. A determined LSH did prevent further scoring during this period but were unable to reduce the arrears.
