Rugby Union: Birkenhead win in style

BIRKENHEAD PARK returned to North 1 action after the festive break with a comprehensive 47-3 victory over struggling Penrith last weekend.

Chris Jones’s remarkable try scoring run continues. He is the leading league try scorer in the country with 23 tries and a further four in cup matches.

Park will be in good heart for Saturday’s EDF Energy Intermediate Cup tie against Herefordshire side Luctonians from Midlands 1 with a place in the quarter finals at stake. Kick off is 3pm at the Upper Park.

Meanwhile, Park Wanderers have been finding life tough in the Bateman Premiership and on Saturday Caldy avenged Park’s victory earlier in the season at Paton Field.

They will need a few more good results to pull clear of the relegation zone starting on Saturday against Bottom side Lymm at the Upper Park.
