Rugby Union: Chester 30, Ampthill 15

IN-FORM Chester proved too strong for Midlands Two East outfit Ampthill as they moved into the last eight of the EDF Energy Intermediate Cup at Hare Lane.

Forward power brought two first-half drive-over tries from Richard Moore and Steve Roberts, plus both conversions by Tom Foden. A Foden penalty made it 17-0 before Ampthill replied with a similar score.

Another Foden kick was followed by an excellent try from man of the match Ross White with Foden adding the extras. Foden, who was dominant at stand-off, managed another kick but Ampthill scored two last quarter tries and a conversion.
