Caldy call to build on their best

DIRECTOR of rugby Tony Atherton is calling on Caldy to build on their “result of the season” at home to Fylde this Saturday.

Caldy won at Morley 27-18 in National Three North at the weekend.

Atherton said: “Last week was the result of season so far following some excellent play in the second half. It means that we are now able to push on and compete with those teams in the middle of the league – including Fylde.

“Bradshaw was outstanding on the day despite not training all week and made a huge difference to our forward pack.”

Most of the Caldy players came through the game at Morley unscathed although Matt Holt would have to be a doubt for Fylde following his early exit from that game.

Elsewhere, the Caldy Lions met table-topping Sedgeley Park, who proved too strong on the day and, despite a spirited performance, they lost 27-9 at home.

The third team notched their second successive win under the guidance of Colin Free as they ran out 43-22 winners against Northwich.

The fourth team, under the leadership of Dave Harrison, played Waterloo but came off second best.

On Sunday, the senior academy had a tough encounter at Eccles, eventually winning 7-0, and the junior academy could not prevent Stockport winning 44-0 despite some good play from the whole team.

The under-16s played Altrincham Kersal and ran out 44-19 winners.
