Rugby Union: Hull Ionians 35, West Park 19

THE Merseysiders returned home bemoaning their loss of composure in the last quarter of the game following the sin-binning of lock forward Alan Marsh.

At that point Park held a 19-15 lead, but the floodgates opened in the last 15 minutes with the visitors conceding four tries.

West Park started well enough when fly-half Rob Hitchmough dummied his way over the line for Andy Soutar to add the extras. Ionians responded quickly to level with a converted touchdown. Park recaptured the lead through a converted try from Soutar after some good handling.

Hull reduced the deficit with another try before the interval.

The home side led again with a penalty but once again a good drive by the visitors’ pack enabled Soutar to scamper over near the corner. But from then on Park lost ground to concede a league double.
