LSH: Ready for a challenge

LAST Saturday, trailing by 14 points in the second half, the visitors stunned their hosts and their supporters by scoring 20 points in 19 minutes.

No, not Wales, (who were trailing by 13 points and scored 20 points in 13 minutes) but Liverpool St Helens as they pulled off an astonishing victory at Birkenhead Park.

Now, after savouring the performance, the reality of the situation for LSH is that they are still in joint bottom position in North One with seven games remaining.

Nothing less than the same effort will save them.

Nevertheless Saturday’s win could provide the spark that ignites LSH’s season. “The performance and the result said it all, I was very proud of the lads,” said head coach Paul Woodward.

“At last they have translated the work from training onto the pitch. We are still in a difficult position but now have something to build on.”

Winger Martin McGeough put in a lively performance last Saturday and scored his first try for LSH in a game in which full back Michael Hebden showed his immense promise. Woodward now looks forward to the trip this weekend to Sheffield Tigers and the chance to reverse the one point defeat earlier in the season. He said: “Bring it on. We will certainly give it our best shot.”
